What Is a Sound Font?

Like every Jedi and Sith, each lightsaber has its own voice. A font bundles together the starting ignition, the shut-off, and the hum — the continuous tone the blade makes while lit — along with the swing and clash effects that fire when you move or strike.

The hum is the character of the saber. It is what you hear most, and it is what makes a Vader hilt sound like Vader rather than like a generic prop. The table below lists every font and the character its hum belongs to.

The list below is for our Xenopixel sabers. It is updated regularly and may not capture every font on every board revision — if you are after something specific, just ask us.

How to Change Your Sound Font

The exact button sequence varies by board. Full step-by-step instructions for each are in our lightsaber instructions guide, but the general method is:

• Power the saber on, but leave the blade retracted (not ignited).
• Hold the Aux button, or double-click and hold the main button, depending on your board.
• You will hear the next font announced, or a confirmation tone.
• Release to select. Repeat to keep cycling.

The saber remembers your choice. It will still be on that font next time you ignite it.

Which Font Should I Use?

There is no rule — but most people match the font to the hilt. A Vader hilt with a Jedi ignition sounds wrong in a way that is hard to unhear, and a Maul staff wants something with real weight behind the swing.

Adding Your Own Fonts

Xenopixel and Proffie boards both accept custom fonts.

• Xenopixel — fonts load from the SD card. Power down, remove the card, add the font folder, replace the card.
• Proffie — configured over USB from a PC. More work, but almost limitless.
• RGB V2 — fonts are fixed and cannot be changed.

If you want a specific font that is not on the list, we can usually source or install it. Email us with what you are after and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done.
