Traditional & CNC Builds UK Workshop Inspected High-Carbon Steels Full Tang Construction

Forged in Discipline

To truly understand the samurai sword and katana is to respect centuries of Japanese metallurgy and martial history. At Replica Sabers, our deep appreciation for authentic nihonto (Japanese swords) drives the quality control of everything we curate.

Our armory offers a carefully blended collection. For the purist, our premium tier features blades hand-made using high-carbon and spring steels (such as 1095 and T10). These are traditionally clay-tempered to create authentic differential hardening and a genuine, naturally forming hamon (temper line). Alongside these traditional masterpieces, our knowledge of sword geometry allows us to also offer precision-engineered CNC blades—providing incredible durability, exact tolerances, and highly accessible options without compromising on the traditional aesthetic.

Anatomy of Our Katana

  • Tsuka (Handle): Hardwood traditionally wrapped in genuine rayskin (Samegawa) and cotton or silk ito.
  • Nakago (Tang): Full tang construction secured by dual bamboo pegs (Mekugi) for structural integrity.
  • Habaki & Tsuba (Collar & Guard): Cast iron, alloy, and brass fittings designed to perfectly balance the blade.
  • Saya (Scabbard): Lacquered wood designed to seamlessly protect the steel.

Inspected & Verified in the UK

A sword is only as reliable as the hands that verify it. Every single samurai sword and katana in our armory is physically inspected at our Lincolnshire workshop before dispatch. With over 15 years of e-commerce experience and a profound dedication to prop and replica metallurgy, founder Michael Thackeray and the Replica Sabers team rigorously evaluate the balance, the tightness of the fittings (koshirae), and the blade integrity of every piece. Whether you are ordering a precision factory blade or a traditionally clay-tempered masterpiece, we ensure it meets our strict UK quality standards.

Armory FAQs

What is the difference between a samurai sword and a katana?
The term "samurai sword" is a broad western classification that covers any bladed weapon wielded by the Japanese samurai class. A "katana" is a very specific type of samurai sword, characterised by its curved, single-edged blade, circular or squared guard (tsuba), and a long grip designed to accommodate two hands. Other samurai swords include the shorter wakizashi, the tanto (dagger), and the curved tachi.
Are your katana hand-made using traditional Japanese methods?
We offer a hybrid armory. Our premium collections are fully hand-forged, heat-treated, and clay-tempered using traditional Japanese differential hardening techniques to create real hamon lines. We also stock modern, precision-crafted blades utilizing CNC and factory methods to provide highly durable, beautifully finished options for accessible collecting. Both lines respect traditional blade geometry.
Are these swords full tang?
Absolutely. Whether hand-forged or precision-milled, every katana and samurai sword in our collection features a full tang (nakago) that extends deeply into the handle and is secured by traditional bamboo pegs (mekugi) for excellent structural integrity.
Do I need a licence to buy a katana in the UK?
Under UK law, curved swords over 50cm made using traditional hand-forging methods are exempt from the general ban. We strictly ensure our inventory complies with UK legislation. You must be over 18 years of age to purchase from our store, and all orders are subject to mandatory age-verification checks prior to dispatch from our UK workshop.
