Care & Display Tips for Your Replica Sword

A well-maintained replica sword will look as impressive in ten years as it does the day it arrives. Here's how to keep your Replica sword in perfect condition.

Handling your sword Always handle your replica sword by the grip rather than the blade. Natural oils from skin contact can accelerate tarnishing on the blade surface over time, particularly on darker finishes like the Damascus patterned blade on our premium Longclaw. If you do handle the blade directly — for photography or repositioning — wipe it down afterwards with a soft, dry cloth.

Cleaning the blade For routine maintenance, a soft lint-free cloth is all you need to remove dust and fingerprints from a polished stainless steel blade. For heavier cleaning, a small amount of mineral oil applied with a soft cloth will restore the blade's lustre and provide a protective barrier against moisture. Avoid abrasive cloths, steel wool, or chemical cleaners — these will scratch and damage the finish permanently.

Caring for a Damascus steel blade Damascus patterned blades benefit from a light application of blade oil every few months to preserve the patterning and prevent oxidisation. Apply sparingly with a soft cloth, work it evenly across the blade surface, and wipe away any excess. Store the sword away from damp environments — moisture is the primary cause of rust on Damascus steel.

Caring for the hilt and pommel Leather-wrapped grips — as found on Longclaw, Dark Sister, and several other swords in our collection — should be conditioned occasionally with a small amount of leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. Metal pommel components can be wiped with a dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid water on metal pommel parts where possible.

Wall mounting with the display plaque All swords in our collection arrive with a wooden wall display plaque. When mounting, ensure the plaque is fixed to a wall stud or with appropriate fixings for the wall type — a full-size stainless steel sword carries significant weight and needs a secure mount. Position the sword away from direct sunlight where possible, as prolonged UV exposure can fade wooden plaque finishes and leather components over time.

Storing your sword If you're storing rather than displaying your replica sword, keep it in a cool, dry environment away from humidity. Wrapping the blade loosely in a soft cloth before storage will protect the finish. Never store a replica sword in its packaging long-term — cardboard can trap moisture against the blade.
