The Darksaber is neither a Jedi nor a Sith weapon. It was forged over a thousand years ago by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian admitted to the Jedi Order, and passed to his clan on his death. It is flat and edged rather than round, black with a white corona, and among Mandalorians whoever holds it holds Mandalore.

Not a Jedi Weapon. Not a Sith One Either.

The Darksaber is the only lightsaber that belongs to a people rather than an Order. It was forged over a thousand years ago by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever admitted to the Jedi Order, and when he died it went home with his clan rather than back to the Temple.

Why it looks wrong

Every other saber is a beam. The Darksaber is a blade — flat, edged, and tapering to a point, shaped like a Mandalorian sword rather than a column of light. It crackles and hums at a lower pitch than a standard saber, and the black core with its white corona is unmistakable across a room.

What it actually means

Among Mandalorians the Darksaber is not a weapon so much as a claim. Whoever holds it holds Mandalore, and it can only change hands by being won — which is why it has caused rather more trouble than it has ever settled.

Our build

The Beskar Era edition, on a Xenopixel V3 board with a flat blade. The flat profile is the whole point — a round blade would simply be a black lightsaber, which is not the same thing at all.

Darksaber Lightsaber FAQs

Is the Darksaber a Jedi or Sith weapon?
Neither. It was forged by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian to join the Jedi Order, but on his death it passed to his clan rather than back to the Temple. It has belonged to Mandalore ever since, which is why we do not list it under Jedi or Sith.
Why is the Darksaber flat?
Because it is shaped like a Mandalorian sword rather than a beam of light — flat, edged, and tapering to a point. Our build uses a genuine flat blade, not a round one. A round black blade would be a black lightsaber, which is a different object entirely.
What colour is the Darksaber?
Black, with a white corona along the edge. The blade appears to absorb light rather than emit it, which is what makes it recognisable at a glance.
Who can wield the Darksaber?
In Mandalorian tradition, whoever holds it holds Mandalore — and it can only change hands by being won in combat. In practice, anyone who buys one. But it is worth knowing why it carries the weight it does.
Is the Darksaber duel-ready?
Yes. It uses a thick-walled polycarbonate flat blade and a reinforced chassis. The flat profile is more delicate than a round blade under heavy contact, so treat it accordingly.
