Andúril | Aragorn's Sword Lord of the Rings Sword

Narsil was the ancient sword of King Elendil of Númenor, carried into the War of the Last Alliance at the end of the Second Age. When Elendil fell in battle against Sauron, the sword shattered beneath him — but its broken hilt-shard was seized by his son Isildur, who used it to cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand, ending his physical form and breaking his power. The shards of Narsil were preserved in Rivendell for nearly three thousand years.

In Peter Jackson's The Return of the King, the Elvish smiths of Rivendell reforged those shards into Andúril — the Flame of the West — and presented the completed sword to Aragorn as he chose to embrace his birthright. It is Andúril, not Narsil, that Aragorn carries to the Paths of the Dead, raises before the Army of the Dead, and wields at the Black Gate of Mordor in the final battle for Middle-earth.

What is Andúril?

Andúril is the sword of Aragorn, reforged from the shards of Narsil by the Elvish smiths of Rivendell. Its name means "Flame of the West" in Tolkien's Quenya language.

How long is Andúril?
