The sword's most infamous chapter came in 182 AC, when King Aegon IV gifted Blackfyre to his legitimised bastard son Daemon rather than his scholarly heir. Daemon took the name Blackfyre after the blade and formed a rival house — setting in motion the Blackfyre Rebellion, one of the bloodiest civil wars in the history of Westeros. The rebellion failed, Daemon was slain, and the sword was carried across the Narrow Sea, lost to history.

In House of the Dragon, Blackfyre is seen in the possession of King Viserys I — wielded as a symbol of power, its wide blade a hand-and-a-half bastard sword designed for both offence and defence.
